Be salty, be tasty.

Salt… I Am salt.

There are things I wish I were taught while growing up. Watching and observing caused me to misinterpret many things. I do not hate those who did not teach me, I just wonder what would have happened if they broke down some aspects that they were taught. I am a child and I learn quicker when I am taught a little and experience the rest on my own.

For years, I read Matthew 5:13-16 with no understanding

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavour, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

-Matthew 5:13-15

I thought it meant what I read, “be salt” like being tasty, having sauce and being that extra spice everyone adds too much of. Well that's what I thought but as I read the passage repeatedly and listened to sermons, I finally understood that “You have to be the different one in the midst of all those who surround you. When they look at you, they need to see more than just a friend, but someone who portrays light and a presence so deep that you cannot miss it or let it go, you try to find the same light and find the same peace.” The questions that fill my head when I read it or when the Preacher reads it at church are overwhelming. The passage sets me back in line. It is like a tsunami that hits the land and floods the entire city. The questions make sure I do not have peace until I fix myself and get back in line. There are days where the light is not strong enough to serve others but that’s when you need to fix yourself up and fight to be better than whatever is dimming the light out. However, light cannot penetrate through if there are walls built up and you keep fighting alone.

Light needs a power source, needs a connection in order to shine. If you know that, you have disconnected to the power source then go back and find out why, find out what has been stopping you from shining and receiving power from the Power source, which is God’s word. I am guilty of running away from the Power source because of various reason but at the end of the day, I find myself back in the place I had been running from.

Just remember someone out there could use the light that you are hiding or running from. We were not created to sit and stare into outta space but we created by God to go out and be vessels that He could use for His Kingdom. We have to be more like Jesus, we have to rise up and be different from the rest.

Be Salt, Be Light, Be Like Jesus!
